These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User") and Vento ("we," "our," or "us") regarding your use of the Vento application and related services.


1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the Vento application, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the application.

You represent that you are at least 13 years old (or 16 in the European Economic Area) and of legal age in your jurisdiction to form a binding contract.


2. Description of Service

Vento is a local-first, privacy-focused personal expense tracker available on iOS and Android. The application allows you to:

  • Track expenses and income with categories, tags, and accounts
  • Create budgets with spending alerts
  • Set and monitor savings goals
  • Track recurring subscriptions and bills
  • Visualize spending through analytics (charts, heatmaps, trends)
  • Optionally back up encrypted data to your Google Drive
  • Export data in CSV or JSON format
Important Disclaimer

Vento is not a financial advisor, bank, investment platform, tax preparation service, or accounting software. The app is a personal tracking tool only. We are not responsible for financial decisions made based on data displayed in the app. All calculations (totals, budgets, trends) are based solely on data you enter manually.


3. Accounts & Usage Modes

3.1 Guest Mode

You can use Vento without creating an account. In guest mode:

  • All data is stored locally on your device
  • No data is sent to our servers
  • Free-tier feature limits apply
  • Cloud backup, premium features, and referrals are unavailable

3.2 Authenticated Mode

To unlock premium features, cloud backup, and referrals, you must sign in using Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple. We do not offer email/password authentication.

By signing in, you agree to share your email address, display name, and profile picture (Google only) with us for the purposes described in our Privacy Policy.

3.3 Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and your Google/Apple account. We cannot access your accounts or reset authentication — that is managed entirely by Google or Apple. Report suspected unauthorized access to us immediately.


4. Data Ownership & Responsibility

You Own Your Data

You retain full and exclusive ownership of all financial data you enter into Vento. We claim no intellectual property rights, license, or interest in your transactions, budgets, goals, accounts, categories, tags, or any other content you create.

Your Responsibility

Because Vento follows a local-first architecture:

  • Your financial data lives only on your device (in a SQLite database).
  • If you lose your device, factory reset, or uninstall the app without backing up, your data is permanently lost.
  • We cannot recover your data under any circumstances — we never had it.
  • You are solely responsible for enabling and maintaining cloud backups if you want data recovery capability.
  • Google Drive backups must be deleted manually by you if desired — deleting your Vento account does not remove Google Drive files.

5. Premium Plans & Billing

Prices may vary by region and are displayed in your local currency at time of purchase.

5.2 Payment Processing

Payments are processed through:

  • Apple App Store — for iOS in-app purchases
  • Google Play Store — for Android in-app purchases
  • Dodo Payments — for web-based purchases

We never see, store, or process your credit card number, bank account details, or billing address. Payment processors handle all sensitive financial information.

5.3 Subscription Management

  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
  • You can manage or cancel subscriptions through your device's app store settings (not within the Vento app).
  • If your subscription expires, your account reverts to the free tier. No data is deleted — your existing data remains, but features beyond free limits become read-only until you re-subscribe or reduce usage.

5.4 Refunds

Refunds are handled by the respective payment platform:

  • iOS: Request via Apple (Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, or reportaproblem.apple.com)
  • Android: Request via Google Play (Play Store → Payments & subscriptions)
  • Web: Contact us at support@vento.money for Dodo Payments refund requests

5.5 Referral Premium Rewards

Qualified referrals may grant both the referrer and referee a 30-day premium trial. These rewards are non-transferable, cannot be stacked with paid subscriptions simultaneously, and are subject to our fraud prevention policies.


6. Feature Limits (Free vs Premium)

Free-tier users have the following limits, enforced server-side:

These limits may change with future updates. We will notify you of significant changes. Transactions, categories, and basic analytics are always unlimited for all users.


7. Referral Program

Vento offers a referral program that rewards both the referrer and the referee with premium access.

How It Works

  • Each authenticated user receives a unique referral code (format: K-XXXXXX).
  • When a new user signs up using your referral code and qualifies, both parties receive a 30-day premium reward.
  • Referrals are tracked via our referral system, not through any third-party tracking service.

Anti-Fraud Rules

To maintain fairness, the following practices are prohibited and will result in referral rejection:

  • Self-referral — referring yourself with a second account
  • Device reuse — creating multiple accounts on the same device (detected via device hash)
  • IP abuse — excessive referrals from the same IP address
  • Automated sign-ups — using bots or scripts to generate fake referrals

We reserve the right to reject, revoke, or void referral rewards if we detect abusive behavior. Device hashes and IP addresses are used solely for fraud detection, as described in our Privacy Policy.


8. Cloud Backup & Data Export

  • Cloud backup uploads an AES-256 encrypted copy of your financial data to your personal Google Drive.
  • The backup is encrypted on your device before upload. We never receive an unencrypted copy.
  • Cloud backup is a Premium feature. Free-tier users do not have access.
  • We are not responsible for data loss if Google Drive becomes unavailable, you lose your Google account access, or the encrypted backup becomes corrupted.
  • CSV and JSON export functionality is also a Premium feature.
  • Exported files are generated locally on your device. We do not process, transmit, or store exports.

9. Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from within the app. When you do:

  1. All server-side data is permanently deleted (authentication records, subscription data, feature usage counts, referral records, device hashes).
  2. Subscription event logs are anonymized (user_id set to null) but retained for financial compliance.
  3. Any active subscription remains valid until the current billing period ends — deletion does not trigger a refund.
  4. Local data on your device is not affected. Uninstall the app to remove it.
  5. Google Drive backups are not deleted. Remove them manually from your Google Drive.

Account deletion is irreversible. Once processed, we cannot restore your account or any associated data.


10. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application
  • Attempt to bypass premium feature limits or subscription verification
  • Create multiple accounts to exploit free-tier limits or referral rewards
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the app or our servers
  • Attempt to access other users' data or our internal systems
  • Use the service for any unlawful purpose or to facilitate illegal financial activity
  • Redistribute, resell, or sublicense the application

11. Intellectual Property

The Vento application, including its code, design, brand assets, and documentation, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes.

"Vento," the Vento logo, and associated trade dress are our trademarks. You may not use them without our written permission.


12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • Vento is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
  • We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or secure operation of the app or our backend services.
  • We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or financial opportunities.
  • Our total aggregate liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $50, whichever is greater.
  • We are not liable for data loss resulting from device failure, uninstallation, theft, or failure to maintain backups.
  • We are not responsible for financial decisions you make based on data displayed in the app. Vento is a tracking tool, not financial advice.

13. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity (including referral abuse), or if we reasonably believe continued access poses a risk to our service or other users.

Upon termination, your right to use the app ceases. Local data on your device remains yours. Any active subscription will not be refunded upon termination for cause.


14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes in our service, legal requirements, or business practices. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notification or email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.


15. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation first. If a resolution cannot be reached, disputes shall be submitted to binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the applicable arbitration body.
